Requirements Gathering and Vendor Evaluation

Application Redesign

A State Government agency enlisted CapTech to perform analysis on two mission-critical legacy applications that were written in a technology (Visual Basic 6.0) that was no longer supported by their IT department.  After extensive review of the existing application and determining additional business needs, CapTech presented a plan for a solution that would position the agency to not only meet current needs, but provide expandability for future enhancements.  In addition, CapTech also identified ways for the state agency to significantly lower maintenance costs through improved and more efficient application architecture.

Requirements Gathering and System Analysis

CapTech analyzed an existing legacy system of record that was badly in need of rewriting and designed a new architecture that greatly increased security, flexibility, and reporting.  

CapTech Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) serve as the liaison between the business and IT customer to elicit well-defined and usable requirements. CapTech BSA's work with clients to determine the best approach, whether a traditional waterfall or an agile development methodology. CapTech BSAs have expertise using Object Oriented Analysis, the Unified Modeling Language (UML), and other best practices as part of the requirements gathering approach.

Initial Scoping

CapTech works to identify key high-level requirements supporting the business needs and translate the requirements into business assessment and detailed business case. As part of these tasks, the CapTech teams works with technical resources to develop preliminary implementation estimates.

Requirements Gathering

CapTech meets with project stakeholders to solicit and define business and system requirements and to obtain project approvals.

Requirements/Scope Management

During this phase of an engagement, CapTech institutes the change request process to control requirements changes and works with project resources to assess impact of each potential change.
